News - Prior Missions and Activities:
January 16, 2012 - Mission 12-08-02 - Teen wandered/separated from family at White Sands National Monument. DACSAR was one of multiple teams which responded. DACSAR provided 14 volunteers (two teams) tasked with a line search over a substantial area of the dunes. Teams searched until called back to base after the subject was located/extracted via aerial search team.
January 7, 2012 - Mission 12-01-04 - Hiker on Baylor Canyon trail did not return by expected time. DACSAR responded with 8 volunteers, and were assigned 2 teams with one hasty team headed up trail and the other sent to search a mine area along a possible route. Subject made his way out and teams were called back to base.
November 30, 2011 - Mission - a hiker in the Rio Penasco area south of Cloudcroft had not returned, nor had his family member who had gone looking for him. Team assembled at Kmart to go to IB and begin search at first light on day 2 when call received that the subject had been located. Team was put on stand-by for another mission (downed plane near Ruidoso) but were not called.
March 5, 2011 - Team Participation in Mock Mission - joint exercise with the Civil Air Patrol and multiple teams and agencies. DACSAR provided support personnel to incident base, evaluators, and planners for this key training event in the Las Cruces area. Two ground search teams also participated in looking for the subject and worked together with base and air support to locate the "missing" hiker.
December 31 to January 4 - Mission 10-12-14 -
DACSAR sent 7 volunteers over the multi-day mission looking for the father and son campers stranded in the Gila after a snow storm. The subjects were located, brought out, and able to return to their home in El Paso. It was a test of winter conditions for the team members that were able to participate.
October 31st - Mission 10-11-11 -
Lost Hunter in the Gila National Forest. Team sent 5 members, on approach to incident base, subject was found as he had walked out to the road miles from his camp. Base was notified via radio as he was brought to base. Our team then left base to join mission 10-11-12 which was in progress in the same area.
October 30th - Mission 10-11-12 -
Kurt Anderson served at incident command and in search assignments on mission. All three hikers were located, multiple day search.

October 11 & 12 - Mission 10-12-11 - Pinos Altos, NM
DACSAR provided six searchers looking for a lost hiker. We covered several trails in rough terrain overnight. Subject was found the next morning. Link to news story:

DACSAR provided two key responders to injured hiker on trail in the Aguirre Springs Recreation area. Subject was located and given aid, then transported for medical care. Other members were en route to assist; however, they were called back when it was determined no additional volunteers were needed.
Tuesday, July 27 - Mission 10-04-06
Individual walked away from family in town. Teams assembled at base camp set up at the Las Cruces Country Club parking lot. DACSAR provided six searchers and subject was located in town very early into the mission.
Saturday, April 10 - Mission 10-08-05
Injured hiker in Dog Canyon, South of Alamogordo - DACSAR sent a team of six to assist in the rescue to bring the subject for pick-up by helicopter.
Thursday, April 7 & 8 - Mission 10-12-01
DACSAR provided a team of five to support the rescue of an injured hiker in the Florida Mountains SE of Deming near Spring Canyon. He was brought down to a location in the mountains within reach of a National Guard helicopter and then transfered to a medical helicopter for transport to the hospital. He had fallen and suffered a compound fracture of his leg the evening before.
Saturday, March 6 - "Mock Mission"/Training was held @
Leasburg Dam State Park, we searched with other SAR Teams. "Mock
subject" was found & evacuated via litter to base camp. Good practice mission, good experience for searchers and the incident base staff.
February 18, 2010 - Mission 10-04-02 - Nine team members participated during this mission near Organ, NM. At one time this mission had 27 searchers from the various local teams out on tasks. Several new members were able to participate for the first time in an actual mission. Search was suspended at the end of the day.
